Nintendo Switch TWO!

Switch 2's first dual-mouse mode game is wheelchair basketball Drag x Drive

Quote:The game itself is 3 v 3 wheelchair basketball, and alongside some new accessibility options on the Switch 2 itself, appears to show Nintendo taking disability more seriously.

As for the console itself, Nintendo is expanding the existing Switch accessibility options.

"In addition to existing accessibility features on Nintendo Switch, to support players' wide range of gameplay styles," says Nintendo, "Nintendo Switch 2 offers a variety of new accessibility options including the ability to adjust font size, enable screen reader, and speech-to-text features within GameChat."

Sounds good, right?

Drag X Drive booth staff mention they’d been told to refer to them as “vehicles” and not wheelchairs

Quote:Journalist Laura Kate Dale recently went to the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience at London and tested out the new Drag x Drive game. What is interesting is she overheard the booth attendants say to another attendee that they had been told to refer to the wheelchairs, which the player zooms around in, as vehicles and not wheelchairs. Gaming journalist Chris Scullion mentions that he heard the same thing from a booth attendant.

Two staff on the Drag X Drive booth mentioned they'd been told to refer to these as "vehicles" and not wheelchairs.

I got clarification they'd been told to do so.

To be clear, I spoke to wheelchair users, including one wheelchair basketball player, before posting this thread, to confirm this felt off.

The official sport is called wheelchair basketball, and those I spoke to hadn't cone across "vehicles" as a term in this context.

I keep forgetting the game’s name (I keep thinking ‘Drag x Drop’) so I said “the one with the wheelchairs is interesting”, and she replied “oh, we call them vehicles”

God. I don't have anything funny to say I'm actually just sad.
