JOANN filed for bankruptcy again
Quote:Announced in a press release today, JOANN has initiated Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings for the second time in this year and this time is seeking sale of the company. The sale process is expected to take 2 months. JOANN customers can continue to shop online and in the stores during that time according to the press release. The current bidder for the company, Gordon Brothers, has indicated that they will liquidate and close the business. The company spokesperson said they are seeking other bidders.
Crafts Retailer Joann Files Second Bankruptcy in a Year
Quote:The company must first win court approval for the sale process. Joann already has an offer from liquidator Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, which would serve as the initial bid, setting a floor for how much the company is worth. Should higher offers come in by Feb. 12, the company would hold an auction, according to court papers.
Under the proposal from Gordon Brothers, if no higher bids come in to rescue the chain, Joann would sell to the liquidator, which specializes in shutting down retailers and conducting going-out-of-business sales.
Joann’s stores will remain open meanwhile, the company said in a statement.
All the alternatives in my area are quilting supply stores which is not the same thing, and I don't want to buy online because I have sensory issues. Shit sucks.

Notch Says He ‘Basically Announced Minecraft 2’
Quote:Minecraft creator Markus Persson has said he “basically announced Minecraft 2” after polling his social media followers on what game they’d like him to make next.
Two options were listed in the poll: a roguelike mixed with a tile-based first-person dungeon crawler, and a a spiritual successor to Minecraft, which in the poll was called “Minecraft 2.” At the time of this article’s publication, 81% had picked Minecraft 2 after 282,968 votes.
Quote:As Notch noted himself, it remains to be seen whether this ‘Minecraft 2’ ever sees the light of day. Since selling to Microsoft, the Swedish developer has started and stopped a number of games, including space sandbox game 0x10c (pronounced "Ten to the C”). However, in another tweet, Notch said the odds of him finishing projects now are higher than they were because he has employees he feels responsible for.
This guy thinks he's Hatsune Miku lol

I like posting on the blog about the Wayback Machine and other things on the Internet Archive. Unfortunately, you have probably noticed I tend to pick this topic up and then put it right back down for months. This is because I get easily overwhelmed by how much content there is, and it also gets kinda depressing fast for me.
If you wanna help me out, show me stuff on the Internet Archive that you find entertaining, and maybe I'll even write about it, and if I write about it I'll be sure to mention you. Thanks!!

I don't really know where else to put this but I want to share. I've always been enamored by all the crud that comes with PC games, especially kids games. Documents, icons, the images on the side of the installation wizard (I think there's a term for those?)
I'll start this out with an example:
I realized I had a copy of this help page and that it was nowhere else on the internet, so I've archived it here.
I also recently ripped the midi music from 3D Dinosaur Adventure; I still need to go through it (duplicate files, gonna have to convert them to be listenable, etc)
I also have the help document for 3D Dinosaur Adventure (and its attached program, Art-A-Saurus, which I haven't gotten around to trying out) but it's a .HLP file and I couldn't find a Linux converter, only Windows ones. I might give it another go if there's interest
And if you can think of any PC games you'd like me to dig through, I'd have fun with that

This is for an upcoming blog post.
Ever notice how many video game enemies are scary flying heads?

Can you think of any that freaked you out? Do you have any personal anecdotes? I think I'm on to something here.

So, I've always liked mashups. One of my favorite examples in this "genre" is the Mouth series of albums by Neil Cicierega. For a long time I've wanted to make my own music mashups, but music creating/editing programs stress me out and I have historically burned out and gotten frustrated with them very quickly.
Not so for videos, however. Recently I saw this video on YouTube that really touched and inspired me, posted by an animator I enjoy the work of, and it got me thinking...hey, this is like a collage. A video collage. And I can make collages, and videos!
ADHD being what it is, though, I didn't really pursue this train of thought as something that I was going to do...until my girlfriend posted his video. I finally processed that I could make this kind of thing too, and make it my own, stupid way.
All that is to explain the backstory of that I've somehow gotten myself into the project of making a video collage for (hopefully) every song in the Mouth albums.
I plan on using this thread to post the videos that I make, with their "artist statements" attached, since YouTube descriptions don't feel like quite the right place to put those. I've made a few already, so I'll write about those first, then any more that I make after, hopefully until I finish the project, but who knows how long (and how many focus shifts) that will take.

Latest Nintendo Switch 2 leaks suggest relatively unchanged design, but massively improved specs
Quote:Of these images, 10 are 3D model renders. They show what looks like a beefed-up version of the Nintendo Switch, with a significantly larger display and a large kickstand similar to that of the Nintendo Switch OLED. There are also some clear differences in the area where the controllers attach to the system, which now appears to be much more recessed.
Does anyone else feel like Nintendo gave up on being innovative in favor of manufacturing The Big PSP? At this point I'm only looking forward to this so that I can turn my Switch into a RetroArch machine.

Inside Out 2 was too gay |

Quote:Disney reportedly made notes to make Riley seem “less gay,” per a September 16 report by IGN, based on conversations with ten former Pixar employees. Depicting Riley’s relationship with older girl Val seem platonic was “a big thing throughout” the process of making Inside Out 2, like editing lighting and tone to be less romantic, per one source who claimed that leadership was “uncomfortable” with what IGN refers to as “queer themes.”
Quote:But multiple sources say that Disney leadership internally put a large part of the blame for Lightyear’s financial failure on a same-sex kiss in the film, which was briefly removed then reinstated after an internal staff uproar. In a joint statement to Walt Disney Company leadership, LGBTQ workers and allies at Pixar said leadership was censoring “overtly gay affection” at a time where employees were also protesting the company’s response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
Quote:The apparent hesitance to touch on LGBTQ themes storylines in particular affected Inside Out 2’s development, according to several of our sources. Multiple people recall hearing about continuous notes to make Riley, the main character of both Inside Out movies, come across as “less gay,” leading to numerous edits that ramped up around September 2023 after the resolution of the WGA strike. Sources describe rumors that there was special care put into making the relationship between Riley and Val, a supporting character introduced in Inside Out 2, seem as platonic as possible, even requiring edits to the lighting and tone of certain scenes to remove any trace of “romantic chemistry.” One source describes it as "just doing a lot of extra work to make sure that no one would potentially see them as not straight."
This is hysterical because the gayness in this film was so radioactive I actually thought they were doing it on purpose. Swing and a miss
Second article has more details about company layoffs, but damn it's a depressing read
